Our visit to Seattle wouldn’t be complete without seeing a Mariners game.  I opted for us to see the Tuesday night game as our last planned adventure before we left Seattle. This decision came about as I was researching hotels in the area and found Silver Cloud Hotel Seattle Stadium. While there seems to be several Silver Cloud Hotels, this one is across the street from T-Mobile Park where the Mariners play. I was excited to find out there were still rooms available! So, I booked a room for the one night. It was a relief to be able to park the car at the hotel and not have to worry about driving back to the hotel from the stadium after dark. This really worked out well because my partner drove instead of me. He doesn’t usually drive unless it’s his own car.

The tickets were purchased through Ticketmaster ahead of our trip. This is a bit of a rarity lately. Ticketmaster was the official ticket seller for the Mariners.

While trying to get the last of our Seattle sightseeing in, we used up most of our afternoon hours. I originally thought that we’d use the afternoon hours as buffer time to check into the hotel and look around this area of the city. Unfortunately, our delay resulted in us hitting stadium traffic on the local streets as it was getting close to game time. It was a stressful ride, but we arrived at the hotel 30 minutes before the game started. The staff was clearly used to this as the drop-off for car parking and check in was quick. We dropped our luggage off at the room and we were on our way.

At the security gate of T-Mobile Park, I hit a small snag. It was my purse. It was too big! I’ve used this purse before when going to other baseball parks, so it came as a surprise to me that it was a concern. The situation was over as quickly as it began as the security agent consulted with a second security person and then waved me through.  Although I didn’t get stopped at security, I thought to myself, at least with the room across the street I can at least get back and forth quickly if I had to. Or I suppose toss the purse. (I am glad that I didn’t need to do either, especially toss the purse).

Next Step, ice cream!

Upon entering the stadium, we immediately headed for the main level ice cream stand 106 that the MLB website noted as selling ice cream. From what I read; it was called Chick Chick Boom. We were on the hunt for a display of helmets so that we could continue to add to our ever-increasing collection. My gathered intel from MLB showed that there were also two stands on the third level, one at 316 called Espresso and Desserts and the other at 329 at High Cheese Pizza. So, we had a plan! As luck would have it, our first stop at stand 106 fit the bill. We took our ice cream helmets, a ton of napkins and went up to our seats to watch the game.

The stadium was covered for this game, but it still provided a view of the lights from the city. Even though it was covered, it was still a bit chilly (mid 60s), so I was glad we had our jackets with us.

Bases loaded!

The action started early, the bases were loaded when we got to our seats, and it was only the top of the first inning! There were a lot of hits in this game but also a lot of strategy. The Mariners didn’t let Houston get any runs in during that first inning, but they did let two runs through one in the 7th and one in the 9th. Seattle got runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 3rd, 5th, and 8th. As a fan, I thought this game went by very quickly. It kept me interested and before I knew it, it was time to leave. We did sneak out at the top of the 6th inning to grab dinner, hot dogs and a soda, but we were right back in our seats asap.

As we made our departure, we walked near the Rooftop Boardwalk area to exit the stadium; I feel like I missed out by not spending time here during the game. Although closed for the evening, from what I can tell there was a decent amount of food options and a few big screen tv’s near the seating so you could watch the game while you ate.  On the walk across the third floor towards the exit, I saw an ok view of the Seattle skyline at night, and I stopped to take photos, the framing wasn’t right, so the photos aren’t very good.

In hindsight, I think I’d frequent T-Mobile Park if I lived closer. I’d relish the opportunity to return for a game.
